Now, this really surprises me. As much as a I like Apple and their stuff (I'm typing this on a MacBook Pro next to my iPod Touch that I pre-ordered the day Jobs announced the thing) I still can't image an entire campus saying, "This is the computer you will use and this is the cell phone you will use." Is it just me?
Sorry, I'll back up, here's the story; Oklahoma Christian University has been pushing each student to have a laptop for the last 6 years. Great! Laptops are something most students can afford now and they do make connecting and getting homework done a lot easier than finding a lab on campus. But, they just annouced that each student and faculty member will be issued a MacBook and their choice of iPod Touch or iPhone this summer.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most Universities would have riots in the street if the dean said, "Okay everyone, here's your Dell laptop and Windows CE SmartPhone, enjoy. Yes, you need to use that, it's school issue." Obviously, this isn't a public university, and these christian colleges seem to really enjoy giving every student an expensive laptop (yes, Mac are comparable to 'similiarly built' latops, but they're still expensive), but I just don't understand what would convince a college to do this. Unless, they really wanted to get on my blog... in that case, mission accomplished.
Is it just me, or is Apple seeming more like the Borg than Microsoft everyday?
